Fidelity Chess Challenger CC1 – the first chess computer available to consumers! This computer is a vintage Fidelity Chess Challenger 1, or CC1 as described in collecting circles, blogs and websites. If your’e a collector of these chess computers, you know this model is extremely rare and ones in working condition don’t come along very often. The CC1 is an infamously bungled product, not only for accepting illegal moves, but for reversing the letters and numbers on the board. The CC3 fixed that, and introduced three play levels. Owners of a CC1 were offered a paid upgrade to a CC3.

Fidelity Mach III Electronic Chess Model 6113

This item has been sold.

The last made Fidelity electronic chess set. It comes in a beautiful faux-leather carrying case and includes the board, all pieces, an adapter, and the paperwork/manual for the game. This board is in 100% working condition. I had a chess enthusiast play a few games against the computer to make sure all sensors are working appropriately and the scoring is accurate, there is no fading or wear on the board or any of the pieces. The set is in immaculate condition as you can see from the pictures. The only flaw is that the inner lining on the top of the case is coming off slightly, but this can be fixed with some glue. The outer leather case has slight fading on it from it’s 24 years in existence.

Fidelity Mach III Electronic Chess Model 6113

Why is this one so rare?
This board is very special because it’s the last model made by the brand Fidelity before they were bought out in 1989 by Mephisto Hegener & Glaser, making it a rare collector’s item. Not to be confused, there is a later model Mach IV put out under the name Fidelity, but this model was made under the new ownership and therefore is not as rare as this model. In this condition, this board is a great catch! I have seen this exact model sell on Ebay for well over $1000 in Germany and other areas of the world within the last year.

A little bit about this specific model:
Fully featured chess computer using the program that was awarded a Master rating of 2265 at the 1988 World Open held in Philadelphia. Sensory playing surface and many playing levels including: average time; count down; fixed depth in plays; mate finder and user selectable time controls. Display options include: move time; search depth; score; current move analyzed and up to four moves of the principle variation.

Additional information by http://electronicchess.free.fr:

The Excel 68000 was the first Excel 16 bits. It’s a very strong player, designed for the world championships. It’s also the first chess computer using hash tables to improve the finales. A hash table keeps the different positions evaluated and cut the search tree on the positions already analyzed. The hash table is a bit small (16Ko) and there are still some programming mistakes, so the game has only a level of around 1850 ELO. There are only few design differences between the Excel Display and the Excel Mach III (model: 6094 / 6098): the “Chess Challenger” and “Fidelity Electronics” texts are in gold instead of silver and there are 64 leds on the chessboard. But the inside has nothing in common. The Mach III includes the chef d’oeuvre of Kathe and Dan Spracklen with a game level of 2000 ELO. The Jeux et Stratégie magazine described it well: a tiger in a soap box.
